Enjoy the Grand Panorama of Nobeoka's Cityscape and Gokase River from Mount Atago
About this spot
Atago Shrine (愛宕神社), located near the summit of Mount Atago (愛宕山) that towers over the western side of Nobeoka's cityscape, is a shrine long cherished by Nobeoka residents as a deity for fire prevention and good fortune in relationships. The views from the shrine grounds are magnificent—a panorama that sweeps across Nobeoka's cityscape, the flows of the Gokase River (五ヶ瀬川) and Ose River (大瀬川), and even to the horizon of Hyuga Nada (日向灘) in the distance is said to be the finest in Nobeoka. You can also spot the riverbed of the Ose River (大瀬川), tonight's fireworks venue, from above, naturally inspiring anticipation for heading to the venue from evening onward. In addition to hiking the mountain path through the shrine approach, you can also reach near the summit by car.

まつりのべおか花火大会は、延岡市の夏を代表する祭りのクライマックスを飾る花火大会です。大瀬川大瀬大橋の下流から打ち上がる約10,000発の花火が、川面を照らしながら夜空に大輪の光を広げます。河川敷という広大なロケーションで間近に見上げる花火は迫力満点で、川面に映る光の揺らめきも見どころのひとつです。大瀬橋を背景にした夜景とともに打ち上がる花火は、延岡の夏にしか味わえない特別な景色です。地域の人々と一緒に盛り上がるお祭りの雰囲気も、この花火大会ならではの魅力です。

開催日時は2026年7月19日(日)で時間は未定のため、当日の公式発表を必ず確認してください。荒天時の対応(中止・延期)も公式情報で確認を。終了後は観覧客が一斉に帰路につくため、延岡駅周辺の道路や駐車場は大変混み合います。フィナーレ後は河川敷でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから時間をずらして移動するのがおすすめです。足元が暗い河川敷の帰り道はライトを活用して安全に。

About 10 minutes by car from Nobeoka Station (延岡駅). If visiting on foot, stone steps line the mountain path, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The viewing area is open and ideal for commemorative photos. The shrine's parking lot has limited spaces, so arrive early during busy times.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. In the afternoon's clear air, the panorama of the cityscape and river is breathtaking. In summer, bring a hat as the sun is strong.
