An important cultural property designated by the national government, utilizing the former Yamagata Prefectural Government Building and former Prefectural Assembly Hall built in 1916 (Taisho 5), with the formal name Yamagata Prefectural Local History Museum. The English Renaissance-style brick architecture is striking, and the central courtyard colonnade possesses a beauty that has served as a filming location for movies and dramas. The museum interior features exhibits related to Yamagata's history and culture, viewable free of charge. The stately assembly chamber and governor's office interiors convey the pinnacle of Taisho-era architectural technology, offering children an authentic historical experience beyond textbook learning. Located only about 10 minutes' walk north of Kasajo Park, it's a perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon on festival day.

山形市を代表する夏の花火大会で、霞城公園内から約7,000発が打ち上げられます。城跡の広大な空間を舞台に繰り広げられるスターマインの連打は迫力満点で、地上近くから夜空の高みまで花火が咲き乱れる光景は、公園内の観覧ならではの臨場感です。お盆の夜に山形市民が集う年に一度の大イベントとして地域に根付いており、和太鼓などの演出と組み合わせた場面も見どころのひとつ。フィナーレに向けて勢いを増す連発花火が夜空を埋め尽くす20時30分の大詰めは、1日のクライマックスにふさわしい感動を届けてくれます。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は山形市または大会主催者の公式発表で必ず確認を。終了後はJR山形駅や周辺道路が大混雑するため、フィナーレ後は公園内でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから時間差で移動するのがおすすめ。帰りの足元が暗い箇所があるため、小さなライトを持参すると安心です。

Tips

Approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Yamagata Station, approximately 10 minutes from Kasajo Park. Closed Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a holiday). Admission is free. The air-conditioned interior is ideal for a refreshing break during the hot summer afternoon. Follow the photography guidelines posted on each floor.
