The Nanoka-cho and Honcho area in central Yamagata is a lively zone with covered shopping arcades that locals use daily. True to Yamagata's reputation as a fruit kingdom, sweet shops and juice stores featuring peaches and cherries are scattered throughout—perfect for a sugary pick-me-up before the fireworks. Souvenir shops, drugstores, and convenience stores are also available, so you can stock up on any forgotten items for peace of mind. As evening approaches, crowds heading to the fireworks festival begin to increase, and the entire street is wrapped in pre-festival excitement. The walk back to Kasajo Park takes 10-15 minutes.

山形市を代表する夏の花火大会で、霞城公園内から約7,000発が打ち上げられます。城跡の広大な空間を舞台に繰り広げられるスターマインの連打は迫力満点で、地上近くから夜空の高みまで花火が咲き乱れる光景は、公園内の観覧ならではの臨場感です。お盆の夜に山形市民が集う年に一度の大イベントとして地域に根付いており、和太鼓などの演出と組み合わせた場面も見どころのひとつ。フィナーレに向けて勢いを増す連発花火が夜空を埋め尽くす20時30分の大詰めは、1日のクライマックスにふさわしい感動を届けてくれます。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は山形市または大会主催者の公式発表で必ず確認を。終了後はJR山形駅や周辺道路が大混雑するため、フィナーレ後は公園内でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから時間差で移動するのがおすすめ。帰りの足元が暗い箇所があるため、小さなライトを持参すると安心です。
