Ojiya City is known worldwide as the birthplace of nishikigoi (ornamental koi), and Nishikigoi no Sato is a facility that conveys their history and beauty. In the indoor and outdoor display ponds, various varieties such as Kohaku, Taisho Sanshoku, and Showa Sanshoku swim leisurely, and visitors are overwhelmed by their vivid colors and impressive size. It's a classic spot where both children and adults are surprised to see 'koi this big,' and it can even serve as material for a summer vacation research project. There's also an exhibition room introducing the history of nishikigoi, making it a fulfilling place to learn about the cultural background of the Ojiya area. It's a perfect place to spend a relaxed time in the cool of the facility on an afternoon.
Tips
A few minutes by car from central Ojiya City. Admission is about 310 yen for adults (check official information for current rates in advance). Even on the day of the fireworks festival, it's relatively uncrowded during the daytime, so you can take your time viewing. There are also time slots for a feeding experience, so it's a good idea for families with children to check in advance.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. The colors of the nishikigoi in the water look their most beautiful in the bright hours of the afternoon.
