Into the interior of the 41.8-meter white-robed Great Kannon—panoramic views of Takasaki and mountain ranges

About this spot

Standing 41.8 meters tall on the Kannonzan hills on Takasaki's west side, the white-robed Great Kannon is a symbol of the city, established in 1936. This Kannon statue within Jiganji Temple's grounds can be entered, and climbing the spiral staircase to shoulder height offers sweeping views of Takasaki city and distant Mount Akagi and Mount Haruna. From this vantage point, you can also spot the direction of the Karasugawa River where tonight's fireworks will launch, building anticipation for the venue. At the base of the hill lies Kannonzan Family Park, enjoyable even for families with young children. Souvenir shops line the approach path.

高崎まつりのフィナーレを飾る大花火大会は、約15,000発という北関東有数の打上数を誇る夏の一大イベントです。烏川の広い河川敷から見上げる花火は、遮るものがなく空全体に広がる開放感が最大の魅力。音と光が体に響く大玉の連発から繊細なスターマインまで、50分間にわたって夜空を絶え間なく彩ります。川面に映る花火の反射も美しく、大河川沿いの花火大会ならではの迫力と情緒が同時に楽しめます。フィナーレの怒涛の連発が夜空と川面を一斉に照らす瞬間は、この1日のクライマックスにふさわしい感動の光景です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否および順延については高崎市の公式発表で当日確認を。終了後は高崎駅方面へ向かう人で歩道が大変混み合うため、フィナーレ後しばらく河川敷で余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめです。帰路の足元は暗いので小さなライトがあると安心。電車を利用する場合はJR高崎線・上越新幹線・両毛線などの臨時増発の有無を事前に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

About 20 minutes by local bus from Takasaki Station; alight at Kannonzan Bus Stop (観音山バス停). Interior viewing fee: ¥300 for adults, ¥100 for children (elementary school and under). The interior features steep spiral stairs—hold small children's hands firmly. Summer breezes on the hilltop are pleasant, but bring a hat and water.
