The riverbank spreading out upstream of Wada Bridge (和田橋) on the Karasu River (烏川) is the viewing area for the Takasaki Matsuri Grand Fireworks Display (高崎まつり大花火大会). Along the wide Karasu River, the open sky is the main appeal, and food stalls set up at the venue from the evening add to the lively atmosphere. Secure a spot early, spread out your leisure sheet, then lay out yakisoba (焼きそば) noodles or frankfurters bought from the stalls in place of dinner while waiting for the show to start. The cool evening breeze blowing in off the river is pleasant, and watching the sky gradually darken as the sun sets is also one of the highlights. Using the restroom early is strongly recommended.
Tips
About a 20 minute walk from Takasaki Station, or take a local bus to the nearest stop. If coming by car, parking near the venue fills up from early on, so using public transportation is strongly recommended. The temporary restrooms are bound to be crowded, so use them early before the show starts. Please follow the venue's opening time when securing a spot.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 35 minutes. The riverbank at dusk has a cool river breeze, making it one of the most comfortable times of the day.
