About this spot

The riverside green space spreading north and south of Owatashi Bridge (大渡橋), which spans the Tone River (利根川), is the main viewing area for the Maebashi Fireworks Display (前橋花火大会). The vast riverside lawn and embankment double as viewing seats, and the venue is pleasant with a cool night breeze blowing across the river. From the evening as the sun starts to set, spread out a leisure sheet, settle in, and wait for the show to start while enjoying the twilight scenery as the color of the river's surface changes moment by moment. The ground on the riverbank retains daytime heat underfoot, so sneakers are safer than sandals. Food stalls are also set up, so you might pick up a light snack too.

Tips

About a 25 minute walk from Maebashi Station. On the day of the fireworks, there are traffic restrictions, making access by car difficult, so coming by public transportation or on foot is the basic approach. The viewing area is open to the public for free, but check the official information in case paid viewing seats are set up. Restrooms, including temporary ones, are set up in several locations, but they form lines before the show starts, so it is recommended to use them early.
