This old well is located in Motomachi (本町), not far from Tatebayashi Station (館林駅), and once stood in front of the main hall of Zendo-ji Temple (善導寺). Legend says that the wife of the dragon god living in Shiro-numa Pond (城沼) vanished into this well to protect the temple, and Tatebayashi City counts it among the wells associated with Shiro-numa Pond as part of the Japan Heritage site Sato-numa (里沼). Restaurants are gathered nearby, so after peeking at the legendary well, finish up dinner and spend the remaining time before the fireworks at a relaxed pace.
Tips
It's about a 15-20 minute walk from Tatebayashi Station (館林駅) to the venue, Tatebayashi Castle Yume Hiroba (館林城ゆめひろば). Some roads have traffic restrictions on the day of the festival, so it's reassuring to check your walking route to the venue in advance. Convenience stores tend to run low on stock in the evening on the day of the fireworks festival, so it's best to shop early.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours. Plan your schedule so you can move to the venue more than an hour before the fireworks begin.
