About this spot

The Sakura River (桜川), the venue for the fireworks, is a Class A river that rises at Mount Kuwagara (鍬柄山) in Sakuragawa City (桜川市), and flows into Lake Kasumigaura (霞ヶ浦) over a basin of about 350 square kilometers and a course of roughly 64 kilometers. The riverbank at its lowest reach is the launch site for the competition. On the day, numerous food stalls line the area, so finish dinner and secure your viewing spot before the show starts at 5:30 pm. Sunset comes early in November, and it's already getting dim by 4 pm, so it's reassuring to have warm clothing and a blanket ready early.

Tips

The food stall area is busiest around 5 pm, just before the show starts. It's best to buy drinks and food early. Lines for the temporary restrooms get long right before the show, so use them with plenty of time to spare. Temperatures on November nights can drop below 10 degrees Celsius, so dress warmly. Keeping your belongings compact and ready to pack up quickly will help you prepare for the crowds on the way home.
