Located between Nagano Station and Zenko-ji Temple, the Gondo Arcade (権堂アーケード) shopping street is one of Nagano City's central shopping districts and reaches its liveliest during the Ebisu-ko season. Ebisu-ko is an autumn festival that prays for business prosperity, and stalls selling lucky charms and street food line the area around the arcade, filling it with festive energy. The surrounding area has many restaurants serving Shinshu soba and local specialties, making it a great spot for dinner before the fireworks. Warming up with hot Shinshu soba or a hotpot dish is one of the classic pleasures of visiting Nagano in November. Sai River Daini Ryokuchi Park (犀川第2緑地), the fireworks venue, is within walking distance from here, so it is easy to head over after your meal.

Tips

About 20 minutes on foot from Zenko-ji, or accessible by bus. During the Ebisu-ko period, restaurants around the arcade get very crowded, so it is best to eat early, sometime in the 5 pm hour. To make sure you have plenty of time before the fireworks start at 6 pm, aim to finish your meal and start heading to the venue by 5:30 pm.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. In the evening, Ebisu-ko lanterns light up the shopping street, giving you a real taste of the festival atmosphere.
