The 38th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage associated with Kobo Daishi (Kukai), this ancient temple is located near the tip of Ashizuri Cape. Tradition holds it was founded in 822, with a multi-story pagoda, main hall, bell tower, and other structures scattered throughout the spacious grounds. The grounds feature many points of interest including a tortoise-shaped stone and a pond enshrining Benzaiten (the goddess of wealth). It attracts not only pilgrims but also tourists who appreciate its charm. In contrast to the dramatic natural setting of Ashizuri Cape, you can spend a peaceful time surrounded by trees. It's the perfect spot to conclude your Ashizuri Cape exploration and take a rest before heading to Shimizu Port in the evening.

2026年8月1日(土)20時から40分間にわたって繰り広げられる、市民祭あしずりまつり納涼花火大会です。清水港の鹿島周辺から打ち上げられる約7,000発は、土佐清水市の夏の夜を彩る地域を代表する花火大会で、港に集まった地元の人々と一緒に楽しむ温かな雰囲気も魅力のひとつです。太平洋に開けた清水港の広い夜空に次々と大輪が開き、港の水面に光が反射する様子は海辺の花火大会ならではの美しさ。山々に囲まれた内陸とは異なる、潮の香りと波音の中で楽しむ40分間のフィナーレは、四国最南端の夏の旅の締めくくりにふさわしい光景です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会主催者・土佐清水市の公式発表で必ず確認してください。終了後は周辺の道路が混み合うため、すぐに移動するよりも港でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから帰路に就くのがおすすめです。帰りの駐車場や宿泊先へのルートは事前に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

Within a 5-minute walk from Ashizuri Cape Lighthouse and the Manjiro statue. Temple grounds viewing is free (separate fee for pilgrim stamp registration). The grounds are spacious, so allow extra time if walking with small children. It takes about 30 minutes by car to reach the Shimizu Port area, so plan to depart after 3 p.m.
