Approximately 4,000 fireworks light up the night sky and Kagami River—Tosa's grand summer spectacle
About this spot
The Kochi City Summer Cool Fireworks Festival is a signature summer event for Kochi. In 2026, approximately 4,000 fireworks will be launched from 7:45 PM to 9:00 PM on August 9 (Sunday) at Midori no Hiroba along the Kagami River. Viewing fireworks so close to the river as it flows through the city center is thrilling, and the shimmering light reflecting on the water's surface is another highlight. Starmine patterns and large orbs burst sequentially across the night sky, and as the finale approaches, sound and light envelop the entire riverside. Watching fireworks on a warm southern Tosa summer night while feeling the river breeze creates an unparalleled sense of unity.

In case of bad weather, always confirm whether the festival will be held through official announcements from Kochi City or the festival organizers. After the event ends, surrounding roads and public transportation become very congested. It's recommended to enjoy the atmosphere a bit longer after the finale and then leave at a staggered time to avoid crowds. Some areas along the return route are dark, so use your smartphone flashlight for safety.
