Restaurants cluster around the east exit of Satsumasendai Station, where you can enjoy local Kagoshima specialties like tonkotsu (simmered pork ribs), satsuma-age (fried fish cakes), and kurobuta (black pork) dishes. On the night of the fireworks, the stalls and shops around the venue get crowded, so it's a smart move to have a proper dinner near the station first. As the sun starts to set, the area in front of the station fills with more people in yukata heading to the fireworks, letting you share in the pre-festival excitement. After eating, use the restroom early before heading to the riverbank.

Tips

Restaurants tend to be busiest between 5 and 6 p.m. Consider going in earlier, around 4 p.m., or getting food to go and bringing it to the riverbank. It's also a good time to stock up on drinks at a convenience store, which saves you from waiting in line to buy them at the venue.
