Ride the chairlift and monorail up the hill for the superb matanozoki view
About this spot
An observation amusement park on the hill in the Monju (文殊) district, reached by chairlift or monorail. It has an observation deck with a sweeping view of Amanohashidate (天橋立), one of the Three Views of Japan, and is also famous as the birthplace of matanozoki (股のぞき), where peering between your legs makes the sandbar look like a bridge across the sky. There is a Ferris wheel and some playground equipment on the hill too, and it is a welcome point that children can move their bodies after enjoying the view. The chairlift and monorail rides themselves are proper attractions for children.

日本三景・天橋立の砂州沿いに広がる海水浴場で、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月16日(日)まで開設されます。遊泳時間は9時から17時までで、遊泳そのものは無料です。松並木を背にした穏やかな遠浅の浜が続き、駐車場・シャワー・トイレ・脱衣所が整い、場所によっては海の家も利用できます。午前に見下ろした白砂青松の景色を、今度は実際に足で踏みしめながら泳げるのがこのコースならではの楽しみです。波打ち際の水遊びから砂遊びまで、夕方まで思いきり夏を満喫しましょう。
Tips
天橋立駅や智恩寺から徒歩圏内で、砂州沿いに複数の遊泳エリアがあります。遊泳は無料ですが駐車場は別途料金がかかるので、事前に駐車場所を決めておくとスムーズです。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えの時間を見込んで15分前には切り上げましょう。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルを忘れずに。
Tips
Depart from the chairlift station about a 5-minute walk from Amanohashidate Station (天橋立駅). The round-trip chairlift and monorail fare includes admission. The observation deck can be windy, so take care that your hat does not blow away.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. In the morning light, the contrast between the white sand of Amanohashidate (天橋立) and the blue of the sea is beautiful
