A white lighthouse standing at the northernmost point of Kyoto Prefecture (京都府), at the tip of the Tango Peninsula (丹後半島). Built in 1898, this historic structure sits in a superb location surrounded by sheer cliffs with a sweeping view of the horizon of the Sea of Japan (日本海). It is about a 10-minute walk along a footpath from the parking lot to the lighthouse, but the viewpoints along the way already offer plenty of the sea's expanse. Walking the path while feeling the sea breeze is a bit of an adventure for children too.
Tips
The only route from the parking lot to the lighthouse is a walking path, which makes it somewhat difficult with a stroller. Because it runs along cliffs, hold small children's hands as you walk. The coast is windy even in summer, so having a layer to throw on is reassuring.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. In the morning light the sea looks a clear blue, which is recommended
