Walk Around the Rocky Shores at the Southern End of Oshima, Where a White Lighthouse Stands

About this spot

Located at the southeastern tip of Oshima island, Ryumaizaki is a scenic spot where a white lighthouse stands on rocky shores battered by the rough Pacific waves. Walking trails are maintained, allowing you to approach the base of the lighthouse on foot. Before you spreads an unobstructed Pacific Ocean horizon, and the sound of waves makes this an ideal spot for a light walk and some movement. Here you can experience the powerful face of the sea on the ocean-facing side of the island, quite different from the calm Oda-no-Hama where you'll soon swim.

気仙沼大島を代表するビーチで、2026年は7月17日(金)に海開きし、7月18日(土)から8月30日(日)まで遊泳できます。遊泳時間は基本9時から16時までで、土日祝と8月12日から14日のお盆期間は17時まで泳ぐことができます。真っ白な砂浜と遠浅で透明度の高い海が自慢で、環境省の水質判定でも高い評価を受けている美しいビーチです。シャワーやトイレ、海の家が整い、監視員も常駐しているので、小さな子ども連れでも安心して1日を過ごせます。遊泳は無料。橋を渡ってすぐの島とは思えない、本格的な海水浴が楽しめるコースのクライマックスです。

Tips

気仙沼大島大橋からは車で15分ほど。遊泳時間は基本16時まで(土日祝・お盆は17時まで)なので、着替えの時間を見込んで早めに切り上げましょう。海の家の休憩やシャワーは有料です。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルを忘れずに。

Tips

Approximately 15 minutes by car from Kameyama. The walking trail near the rocks is slippery underfoot, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended over sandals. There is little shade, so remember to stay hydrated.
