Next stop: Fuel up on Izumozaki seafood before the beachAbout this spot
A museum displaying calligraphy and materials relating to Ryokan (良寛), the Edo-period Zen monk and poet who came from Izumozaki Town (出雲崎町). It stands on high ground overlooking the sea, and from the viewing area beyond the exhibition rooms the Sea of Japan (日本海) sweeps right around you. Seeing from the high ground the water you are about to swim in sharpens anticipation for the afternoon at the beach. The halls are air-conditioned, which also suits a break out of the summer sun.
Tips
About 15 minutes by car north from Nishiyama Furusato Koen (西山ふるさと公苑). The viewing area gets strong sun, so a hat is reassuring. The interior is laid out to be stroller-friendly.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Earlier in the morning you are less likely to overlap with tour coaches and can view in peace
