A museum in the Motomachi (元町) area introducing the nature, history and daily life of Oshima (大島). It is packed with background knowledge, from the eruption history of Mount Mihara (三原山) to camellia cultivation and the island's fisheries, that will deepen your enjoyment of the sea and island scenery you are about to visit. The galleries are air-conditioned, so being able to cool off and learn during the heat of a summer day is another welcome point. Discovering how the volcanic island came to be together with your children gives the afternoon swim a different flavor as well.

元町港のすぐそばに広がる、大島町元町・弘法浜に位置する海水浴場です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月16日(日)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から16時まで。港から歩いてアクセスできる立地の良さと、伊豆大島ならではの澄んだ海が魅力で、島に渡ってすぐに海遊びを楽しめます。遊泳は無料。波打ち際での水遊びから砂浜でのひと休みまで、家族それぞれのペースで夏の島時間を満喫できます。
Tips
元町港から徒歩でアクセス可能。遊泳時間は16時までなので、着替えの時間も見込んで15分前には切り上げるのがおすすめです。設備の詳細は事前に最新情報を確認しておくと安心です。夏の砂浜は熱くなるのでビーチサンダルが役立ちます。
Tips
Within walking distance of Gojinka Onsen (御神火温泉). The exhibits are substantial, but with children you can still enjoy it plenty by visiting only the corners that interest them.

About 45 minutes. Mornings are relatively quiet and let you look around at leisure
