About this spot

A facility just a short walk from the Kitamae Ship Heritage Museum where a Kitamae Ship owner's mansion is open to the public. The sturdy building constructed by the wealthy merchant and the well-maintained garden give a glimpse of how prosperous Hashidate was at the time. In this spacious area where you can relax while admiring the garden, you can feel the history of Kitamae Ships learned at the museum more intimately. As you move through the historic townscape, the scenery itself of black-tiled and white-walled mansions lined up becomes part of the enjoyment.

Tips

About 5 minutes walk from the Kitamae Ship Heritage Museum. There are steps inside the mansion, so if using a stroller, staff can guide you. Summer is when the garden greenery is particularly beautiful.

Best time to visit

Takes about 45 minutes. Viewing during the cooler morning hours is recommended.
