About this spot

About 15 minutes by car from Bentenjima, Kanzanji (舘山寺), known as a hot spring resort on the shore of Lake Hamana, is a sightseeing spot where a ropeway takes you straight up to Okusayama Park (大草山公園). From the observation deck at the summit, you can take in a panoramic view of Lake Hamana, and on clear days the open, far-reaching view stretches into the distance. Restaurants and souvenir shops line the surrounding area, where you can savor local specialties from Lake Hamana, including eel dishes. Make sure to fuel up well here before your afternoon swim.

Tips

Parking lots are scattered throughout the Kanzanji Onsen area, so arriving early is recommended. It's convenient to buy a round-trip ropeway ticket. Having lunch around noon, before it gets crowded, will leave you plenty of time for swimming in the afternoon.
