Ascend to the middle of Mount Kurogane for panoramic views of Daisetsuzan's mountain range
About this spot
A ropeway that ascends from Sounkyo Hot Spring Town to the middle of Mount Kurogane in the Daisetsuzan range. From the gondola car window, you can enjoy sweeping views of Daisetsuzan's magnificent mountain range and the Sounkyo Gorge stretching far below. There are also hiking trails around the mountain station, where you can enjoy a walk in the cool alpine air even in summer. This is a spot where you can easily experience the grand scale of Daisetsuzan National Park.

Venue: 上川町・層雲峡
2026年7月25日(土)開催の本祭を皮切りに、層雲峡温泉峡谷火まつりでは8月15日まで毎夜花火が打ち上がります。19時から20時までの1時間、切り立つ岩壁に囲まれた渓谷の夜空に花火が次々と打ち上がり、岩壁に音が反響する様子は峡谷ならではの迫力です。大雪山国立公園の玄関口で見上げる花火は、都会の花火大会とはひと味違うスケール感を味わえます。
Tips
荒天時は中止となる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は事前に確認しましょう。渓谷の夜は冷え込むことがあるため羽織ものを。終了後は温泉街の道が混み合うことがあります。

Accessible from the ropeway station in Sounkyo Hot Spring Town. Check the facility information for round-trip fares. Bring a jacket as it's cool at high elevation, even in summer.
