About this spot

A ropeway that climbs in one stretch from the Sounkyo Onsen hot spring town to the midpoint of Mt. Kurodake in the Daisetsuzan range. From the gondola windows you can take in the majestic mountain ranges of Daisetsuzan and the gorge scenery of Sounkyo spreading out far below. There's also a promenade around the summit station, letting you enjoy a stroll in the cool highland air even in summer. It's a spot where you can easily experience the grand scale of Daisetsuzan National Park.

Tips

Accessible from the ropeway station in the Sounkyo Onsen hot spring town. Check the round-trip fare at the facility information desk. Since the elevation is high, a jacket is reassuring even in summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. In the clear afternoon air, the mountain ranges are seen sharply.
