A leading scenic spot in Sounkyo, where cliffs of regularly patterned columnar joint rock continue along the Ishikari River. The road that once served as a national highway has been converted into a promenade, letting you walk while viewing the striking rock walls up close. The natural formations produced by Daisetsuzan's volcanic activity are a highlight where families can feel the power of nature.
Tips
A few minutes' drive from the Sounkyo Onsen hot spring town. The promenade is paved, but wear comfortable walking shoes when visiting.

About 45 minutes. The afternoon light shows the texture of the rock walls well.
