Along the Ishikari River, regularly spaced columnar jointed rock cliffs extend, making this a prime spot for gorge scenery representative of Sounkyo. The road where the highway once ran has been developed as a hiking trail, allowing you to walk while viewing the impressive rock walls up close. The natural formations created by the volcanic activity of Daisetsuzan offer a wonderful opportunity for families to appreciate the power of nature.

Venue: 上川町・層雲峡
2026年7月25日(土)開催の本祭を皮切りに、層雲峡温泉峡谷火まつりでは8月15日まで毎夜花火が打ち上がります。19時から20時までの1時間、切り立つ岩壁に囲まれた渓谷の夜空に花火が次々と打ち上がり、岩壁に音が反響する様子は峡谷ならではの迫力です。大雪山国立公園の玄関口で見上げる花火は、都会の花火大会とはひと味違うスケール感を味わえます。
Tips
荒天時は中止となる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は事前に確認しましょう。渓谷の夜は冷え込むことがあるため羽織ものを。終了後は温泉街の道が混み合うことがあります。

Located just a few minutes by car from Sounkyo Hot Spring Town. The hiking trail is paved, but wear comfortable walking shoes.
Best time to visit
Takes about 45 minutes. Afternoon light brings out the texture of the rock walls beautifully
