About this spot

A facility that Toyooka City takes pride in, dedicated to the protection and breeding of the Oriental white stork, a Special Natural Monument. Storks that once became extinct in the wild in Japan are raised here by hand alongside a rich rice-paddy environment, in an ongoing effort to return them to the skies. In the on-site cages, you can observe storks up close, and on clear days you may even spot wild individuals flying leisurely over the surrounding rice fields. It's a spot where families can enjoy learning about efforts to build a community that coexists with nature.

Tips

Access is basically by bus from JR Toyooka Station (豊岡駅). Admission is free. There's also a resource exhibition corner inside, which is handy for a break during the hot hours.

Best time to visit

Takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. In the morning, you can often see storks being especially active.
