About this spot

This is the lavender garden spread across the slopes of Hokusei-yama, also the venue for the Nakafurano Lavender Festival & Fireworks Festival. During the summer festival period, a sightseeing chairlift operates, carrying visitors straight up the mountain. The view from the chairlift, looking down over the slope full of lavender fields with the rural landscape of the Furano Basin beyond, is a spectacular sight unique to this season. From the observation spot at the summit you can see all the way to the Tokachi mountain range, and knowing that fireworks will launch from this very spot at night, it's a great chance to get a feel for the venue during the day.

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from the Nakafurano Station area. The chairlift may be suspended depending on the weather, so check local operating conditions. Parking gets crowded during the summer festival period.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. As evening approaches, the sunlight softens, making the scenery easier to view.
