About this spot

This is the town's lavender garden spread across the slopes of Hokusei-yama, Nakafurano-cho's symbol. In addition to four varieties of lavender, fields of sunflowers and marigolds color the slopes, and from the summit reached by the sightseeing chairlift you can see the Tokachi mountain range and the rural landscape of the Furano Basin. The Lavender Festival begins at 5 p.m., and as the sun starts to set, the early evening is the perfect time to fill up at the food stalls lined up at the foot of the hill while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

Tips

Within walking distance of Hokusei-yama Lavender Garden. Many food stalls accept cash only, so it's reassuring to have some coins ready. Secure a spot early in preparation for crowds.
