About this spot

This is a symbolic structure of Wakkanai Port, made up of 70 columns arranged in a graceful arc. Its distinctive design is said to draw on the cold-weather construction techniques of the Antarctic research vessel Sōya (南極観測船「宗谷」), and it has become a signature photo spot for sightseeing in Wakkanai. During the festival, many food stalls line the area around the dome, bustling with people waiting for the fireworks from evening into the night. Enjoy dinner from the food stalls while taking in the port scenery gradually darkening and the rising festival atmosphere.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Wakkanai Park (稚内公園). It gets very crowded as the fireworks approach, so securing a spot early is recommended. Temperatures drop at night, so don't forget a jacket.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours needed. After sunset, the excitement of the venue gradually builds.
