The Rekifune River (歴舟川), once selected as Japan's cleanest river in a Ministry of the Environment water quality survey, is known for its highly transparent water and abundant nature. On the riverbank, you can try gold-panning: using a special bowl-shaped tool to scoop sand from the riverbed and swirl it in the water to search for glittering flecks of gold dust. Touching the cold, clear water while absorbed in the search for gold dust is an experience that both children and adults can lose themselves in. If you're lucky, you may even get to take a small flake of gold dust home.
Tips
Bring clothes you don't mind getting wet, a change of clothes, and a towel. Even in summer, the river water is cold, so be careful about spending too long in the water. The location and timing of the experience may change depending on the season and river conditions, so it's reassuring to check in advance.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes needed. Early afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is a comfortable time.
