About this spot

This temple is said to have been rebuilt by the priest Mokujiki Ōgi (木食応其上人), who founded the town of Hashimoto, from a rundown village temple. Ōgi Shōnin is known as the reviver of Mt. Koya (高野山) and the monk who saved Mt. Koya from Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign against Kishu. His founding of a town here and building a bridge over the Kinokawa River (紀の川) is the origin of the place name ‘Hashimoto (橋本)’, meaning ‘base of the bridge.’ After learning about the history of the town and the Kinokawa River (紀の川), the stage for tonight's fireworks, take a quiet breather in the temple grounds before evening.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Michi-no-Eki Kaki no Sato Kudoyama (道の駅 柿の郷くどやま). Benches are scattered around, so you can stroll with breaks along the way.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour needed. In the soft light before evening, you can take in the calm atmosphere of the grounds.
