About this spot
A memorial hall that conveys the aspirations of 19 young Satsuma samurai who illegally crossed to England in 1865, breaking the prohibition of isolation. You can view exhibits featuring documents from when the exchange students crossed the sea and how the knowledge they brought back contributed to the development of modern Japan. The story of these young samurai who ventured overseas at such an early age offers valuable learning for children as well. The air-conditioned interior is also appealing as a place to take a break and learn history during hot summer hours.
