A spring where rain that fell on the mountains of Kirishima, refined over long years, wells up at a rate of about 60,000 tons a day, earning it a place among Japan's Top 100 Waters. The water is so clear that you can watch it welling up from the bottom of the pond, stirring up sand as it rises, and depending on the light, the surface shines an emerald blue. A water-drawing area is set up along the shore, and one of its charms is the everyday scene of local residents coming to draw the famous water. Located close to JR Kurino Station, a leisurely walk along the water lets you feel firsthand the origin of the name of Yusui (spring water) Town.
Tips
If you plan to use the water-drawing area, bring an empty bottle or canteen. A walking path circles the pond, but since it's by the water, keep a close eye on small children. It's enjoyable even for a short visit, so it's recommended to pair it with a leisurely visit to Osumi-Yokogawa Station afterward.
Best time to visit
About 40 minutes. The blue of the water stands out most when the sun is high
