About this spot

This is a historic site said to have been built in the Heian period, lined with three stone pagodas and stone Buddha statues including images of the Four Heavenly Kings. It's said to have been built to console the victims of a conflict that once took place on this land, and the quiet grounds carry a solemn atmosphere. At the adjacent museum, you can also learn about the history of Hayato-zuka and the story of its excavation. For families who enjoy historical strolls, it's a calm spot worth taking your time to explore.

Tips

About a 10-minute drive from Kokubu Shiroyama Park. Admission to the grounds is free. There's plenty of shade from trees, making it relatively comfortable even in summer.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The soft afternoon light beautifully illuminates the stone pagodas.
