This is the shore of Lake Saroma, a brackish lake with the third-largest surface area in Japan. From the Yubetsu Town side of the shore, you can take in a sweeping view of the calm lake surface, enjoying scenery on a grand scale characteristic of the Okhotsk region. Known also for scallop farming, this lake is a place to relax and feel the quiet, waterside air.
Tips
Travel by car from Kami-Yubetsu Tulip Park. There's little shade along the shore, so bring a hat and sun protection. It cools down toward evening, so it's reassuring to bring something to layer on.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour and 15 minutes needed. Just before evening, the calm lake surface is especially beautiful.
