About this spot

A dam built on the upper reaches of the Asahi River, known as Japan's first rockfill dam. Its imposing embankment, surrounded by green mountains, is impressive, and the contrast with the calm surface of the dam lake creates a beautiful view. From the observation area you can closely study the dam's structure, and it offers discoveries much like a school field trip. It's also interesting to view it while sensing that the water flowing over tonight's fireworks on the Asahi River originates here.

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from the Yubara Onsen hot-spring town. The sun is strong in summer, so bring a hat and something to drink for a daytime visit.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The afternoon light makes the dam lake's surface shine beautifully.
