A Shingon Ritsu Buddhist prayer temple with buildings situated on the midslope of Mount Kodai in Tamana City, serving as the inner temple of Rengeain Tanjyoji (蓮華院誕生寺), which enshrines the Great Bodhisattva Koen. The star attraction is the world-class massive bronze bell "the Bell of the Flying Dragon" (飛龍の鐘). Its majestic form is awe-inspiring when viewed up close, and the sound of the bell echoing through the mountain valleys has become a symbol of Tamana. Throughout the grounds are scattered sights to behold, including giant Nio guardian statues, and from the elevated vantage point, you can overlook the Tamana Plain and the Ariake Sea. In the soft light of evening, the grounds are serene and peaceful—the perfect place to quietly reflect on a day of enjoyment. Tips

The grounds are expansive with slopes and stone stairs, so keep your comfortable walking shoes on. Visiting hours for worship may vary by season, so check in advance if you'll be arriving late. If you coincide with the bell ringing, close your eyes and savor the lingering resonance.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes required. In the late afternoon when the evening sun bathes the Tamana Plain, the view from the elevated point is most dramatic.
