View a Star-Shaped Castle Ruins, One of Only Two in Japan
About this spot
One of only two star-shaped Western-style castles built during Japan's final years of the shogunate. Known as a precious structure alongside Hakodate's Five-Pointed Fort, the unique pentagonal shape surrounded by moats can be clearly viewed from a nearby observation platform. The grounds include an elementary school and museum where families can learn about Saku's history while visiting. The unusual castle shape is sure to capture children's interest.
