The riverbed of the Chikuma River (千曲川), which flows through the town of Saku, is the very venue for tonight's fireworks festival. As evening falls, viewers gather one after another on the riverbed, spreading out leisure sheets as they wait for the show to begin. Since this is a large-scale fireworks festival that makes use of the wide river, moving early is recommended if you want to secure a good spot. Be sure to have dinner beforehand at the food stalls or nearby restaurants.

Tips

About a 15-minute drive from the Sakudaira Station (佐久平駅) area. On the day of the fireworks festival, the surrounding roads get very congested from evening onward. Get your food and drinks early. It is also reassuring to check the location of restrooms while it is still light out.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. Around sunset is when the riverbed is at its most crowded.
