This temple is beloved as the hydrangea temple, thanks to the roughly 40,000 hydrangea plants that color its grounds in early summer. Although August is past the hydrangea season, the lush garden and quiet atmosphere of the grounds can still be enjoyed just the same in summer. Located close to Konomiya Shrine (小國神社), it pairs well as part of a shrine-and-temple touring course. Take a break in the shaded grounds to prepare for the afternoon's walk.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Konomiya Shrine (小國神社). Mosquitoes are common in summer, so it's reassuring to bring insect repellent. The grounds have some uneven terrain, so wear comfortable clothing.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. With plenty of shade, it's relatively comfortable even during the summer daytime.
