About this spot

This is a completely sun-dried salt works in Tano Town, next to Nahari Town. Without using any fire at all, workers gently stir the seawater by hand, growing salt crystals over more than 100 days using nothing but sun and wind. It's a labor-intensive salt-making site where craftsmen finish the process by reading the strength of the sun, the feel of the wind, and the shifting humidity and temperature. On the way to Nahari Town's port festival, it's a place where you can sense the blessings of the sea in this region.

Tips

About a 5-minute drive from the mouth of the Nahari River (奈半利川). It's also within walking distance of Tano Station (田野駅) on the Gomen-Nahari Line. Crowds heading to the venue in Nahari Town increase toward evening, so this time slot is recommended for a stroll.
