Located at the foot of the Sumoto Castle Ruins, this museum introduces the history and culture of Awaji Island and traces Sumoto's development as a castle town. It also comes in handy as a rest spot where you can escape the summer heat and study at leisure in the cool interior, and knowing the background of the evening's Awaji Island Festival will let you savor the festival's excitement all the more deeply. It's a compact facility, so a short visit is enough to see everything.
Tips
Within walking distance of the Sumoto Castle Ruins. Admission requires a fee. The museum isn't very large, so you can see it all in about 30 to 40 minutes.
Best time to visit
Takes about 45 minutes. Recommended to visit in the early afternoon together with the castle ruins.
