A shopping arcade known as Sendai's premier entertainment district, where ornate tanabata decorations adorn the entire street during the festival period. Numerous restaurants and souvenir shops line the arcade, so finding an early dinner before the performance is no problem. The covered arcade is a plus—you can walk without worrying about summer sun or light rain. As evening approaches, the street gradually fills with tourists, and when the lights illuminate the overhead streamers, the festival atmosphere intensifies.

Tips

Restaurants get crowded after 5 PM, so it's safer to dine in the early afternoon hours of 4 PM. The tanabata decorations connect to the central shopping arcade venue, so you can move directly to sightseeing after your meal. Pack light to move easily through crowds.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Early 4 PM, before dinner crowds, is the best time to secure seating.
