The central district of Etchu-Yatsuo is dotted with restaurants and souvenir shops housed in traditional townhouses that capture the atmosphere of the hillside town. Since it's the opening day of Owara Kaze no Bon, a sense of excitement for the festival begins to spread through the whole town as evening approaches. Once you've had an early dinner and changed into a yukata, you'll be ready for the night of dance-watching ahead.
Tips
During the festival, it gets crowded from evening onward, so it's best to have your meal earlier, sometime between 4 and 5pm. It's also a good idea to use the restroom at this time, so you won't have to rush once you reach the venue.
Best time to visit
About 35 minutes. The early part of the 4 o'clock hour is before the dinner rush, so you can relax.
