The Dignified Former Residence of the Chofu Domain Lord, the Mouri Family

About this spot

Built in 1903 as the Chofu Mouri family residence, this is a formal Japanese-style architectural masterpiece. Even after the abolition of the feudal domain system, the Mouri family continued to reside here, and the expansive tatami rooms, decorative window screens, and well-maintained gardens vividly preserve the lifestyle of the former domain lord family. A quiet landmark where visitors can sense how the castle town of Chofu embraced the modern era.
