A massive tree designated as a Special Natural Monument, with an estimated age of 1,500 years
About this spot
This is one of Japan's largest zelkova trees, with an estimated age of 1,500 years and designated as a Special Natural Monument. The trunk's circumference is among Japan's thickest, and the widely-spread branches convey the overwhelming life force of a tree that has endured for centuries. Located near Higashine City Hall, it has been cherished by locals as a symbol of the town. It is the ideal place to begin a Higashine Festival day by feeling the weight of Higashine's history.
