The birthplace of the great novelist Mori Ogai (森鴎外), known for works such as 'The Dancing Girl' (舞姫) and 'The Boat on the Takase River' (高瀬舟), where he lived until age 10. This modest yet dignified wooden house still preserves the room where Ogai devoted himself to his studies, and visiting it together with the adjacent memorial museum lets you learn how Tsuwano's education-minded domain school culture nurtured Ogai's literary talent.
