日吉大社の摂社である唐崎神社は、近江八景のひとつ「唐崎の夜雨」の舞台としても知られ、琵琶湖畔にそびえる巨大な松「唐崎の松」で有名です。毎年7月28日に行われるみたらし祭は、人形(ひとがた)に穢れを託して湖に流し、無病息災や家内安全を願う夏越しの神事。琵琶湖の水とともに生きてきた近江の人々の信仰が今も息づく、静かで趣深い夏祭りです。
Tips
神社周辺の駐車場は台数が限られるため、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。神事は夕方から夜にかけて行われるため、虫よけ対策をしておくと安心です。人形流しなど神事に参加したい場合は、事前に授与所で確認しましょう。
Tips
About 15 minutes by car from Sakamoto townscape. Parking areas may become crowded in the late afternoon, so using public transportation is also a good option. Terrace seating is popular, so arriving early is recommended.
Best time to visit
Allow about 1 hour. The late afternoon when sunlight illuminates Lake Biwa is especially beautiful.
