A facility introducing the history and production process of Kumejima-tsumugi, a traditional textile designated a National Important Intangible Cultural Property. You can watch the entire process, from plant dyeing to hand-weaving, and depending on the time of year, you may even try your hand at weaving. Encountering Kumejima's traditional industry, which continues from the era of the Ryukyu Kingdom, deepens your understanding of the island's culture.
Tips
About a 15-minute drive from Miifuga. If you'd like to try the hands-on experience, advance booking is recommended. The building is air-conditioned, so it's also good for a break from the daytime heat.
