Eyeglasses Reflected on the Water's Surface and Heart Stone Hunt
About this spot
One of Japan's oldest arch stone bridges spanning the Nakashima River in central Nagasaki. When the twin arches are reflected in the water, they connect above and below to form the shape of large eyeglasses, which is how it earned its name and was designated as a National Important Cultural Property. A riverside promenade offers the charming experience of viewing the bridge from just above water level. The stone embankment conceals several heart-shaped stones, making it a beloved power spot for love, where visitors constantly search for them. Cobblestone alleyways, retro cafes, and craft shops dot the surroundings, making the bridge an ideal starting point for a riverside stroll.
Tips
To photograph the eyeglasses shape, aim for the morning hours when the water is calm and windless. The riverside promenade requires descending stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The heart stones are located near the bridge's base in the embankment area; crowds of tourists will be your landmark.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Morning is recommended when the water is calm and the eyeglasses reflection is clearly visible.
