A statue of Takamori Saigō, one of the architects of the Meiji Restoration, depicted in striking military dress. Standing near Tsurumaru Castle Ruins along a main thoroughfare, it is an indispensable photograph stop on any Kagoshima tour. An information plaque in front provides a brief account of Saigō's life and his connection to Kagoshima.
Tips
Within walking distance of Tsurumaru Castle Ruins and Reimeikan. Located along a sidewalk, so be mindful of traffic when taking photographs. A short stop, making it easy to fit into your itinerary.
