About this spot

This is the terminal station of the JR Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line, known as the southernmost starting station on Japan's mainland. A corner of the station building has an exhibit corner conveying the history of the former Nansatsu Railway that once ran through this area, letting you learn about the connection between Makurazaki and the railway through old photos and materials. From the platform, the townscape spreads out beyond tropical-looking plantings, and visiting in the morning means fewer people and a calmer visit. As the gateway to a day heading toward the festival, it's also a great spot for a family commemorative photo.

Tips

There is parking space in front of the station. The exhibit corner is often unattended, so please view it quietly. In summer, sunlight can already be strong in the morning, so a hat is a good idea.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. You can take your time visiting in the cool of the morning.
