Start Your Festival Day Leisurely at the Southernmost Terminal Station on Mainland Japan
About this spot
The terminal station of the JR Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line, known as the southernmost terminal station on mainland Japan. A display corner in one corner of the station building conveys the history of the former Nansatsu Railway that once ran through this area, allowing visitors to learn about the connection between Makurazaki and railways through old photos and documents. The view from the platform, spreading across the town's landscape beyond tropical vegetation, is peaceful and perfect for leisurely viewing when visited early in the morning when fewer people are around. As the gateway to a day heading toward the festival, it's also a perfect spot for the family to take a commemorative photo.

2026年の「さつま黒潮 きばらん海 枕崎港まつり」は8月1日(土)・2日(日)の12時から22時まで、枕崎港周辺を会場に開催されます。このコースでは、まつりが始まる初日を主役に据えて1日を組み立てました。日本有数の鰹節の産地であり、遠洋漁業の基地としても知られる枕崎港一帯が、まつりの間は普段とは違うにぎわいに包まれます。正午の開幕から夜22時の終了まで長い時間開かれているので、日中の涼しい時間に立ち寄ることも、夕方から夜にかけてじっくり過ごすことも、家族のペースで選べるのがこのまつりの魅力です。会場の明かりが灯る夕方以降は、港町ならではの穏やかな夜の雰囲気を楽しめます。
Tips
会場周辺は当日交通規制や駐車場の混雑が予想されるため、時間に余裕を持って向かいましょう。屋台の有無や当日の催し内容は、会場の案内板や公式情報で確認するのが確実です。小さな子ども連れは、日中の涼しい時間帯から訪れると無理なく過ごせます。夜は海沿いで風が涼しくなることがあるので、羽織るものがあると安心です。
Tips
There is a parking space in front of the station. The exhibition corner is often unstaffed, so please view quietly. In summer, the sun becomes strong even in the morning, so a hat is recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. You can enjoy a leisurely visit during the cool morning hours.
