Nakayama Hokekyoji is a historic temple founded in the Kamakura period, with impressive buildings such as a five-storied pagoda and the Soshido hall standing in its wide grounds. Trees grow thick along the approach, and the air is so quiet and calm that it is hard to believe you are near the metropolitan area. The grounds are wide and well paved, easy to walk with a stroller, which is a welcome point for families. Pay your respects at an unhurried pace in the cool morning hours before heading to the pool.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from JR Shimosa-Nakayama Station or Keisei Nakayama Station. The grounds are large, so narrowing down which buildings you want to see keeps things smooth. A morning visit before the summer sun gets strong is recommended.
